Time Out with Legs Up the Wall!
It is almost the time to say good-by to 2008.
I hope 2008 has been good year to you all and 2009 will be even better!
Anyhow, as New Year celebration is the biggest event in
Shopping has to be done and the entire house needs to be cleaned - the list is endless.
All these could be very stressful for most of us.
When the going gets tough, we all should take a little breezer.
So why don’t you take a time out for 5 minutes and restore your energy by doing a little yoga:)
The pose I suggest is Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose and this is done by lying on your back and elevating your legs on a wall.
That’s simple!
You even don’t need a yoga mat :)
The way this healing, restorative pose gently inverts the body without effort, it is almost physiologically impossible not to relax deeply.
The benefits of this pose confirm the wisdom of old saying, “Put your feet up.”
I recommend this pose to almost everyone, however, you should avoid it,
l if you suffer from serious eye problem such as glaucoma
l if you are more than three months pregnant
l if you have sciatica
l if you have a hiatal hernia
If you find putting legs up on the wall difficult, elevate your legs against the back of a sturdy chair instead.
How to practice this pose
1. Sit on the floor with one shoulder near the wall and your thighs parallel to the wall.
2. Roll back as you swing your legs up the wall.
3. Once in position, make sure that your lower back is comfortably supported by the floor and your chin is slightly lower than your forehead. If your chin lifts towards the ceiling, place a folded blanket under your head and neck.
4. Close your eyes and enjoy!
How to come out of the pose
1. Bend your knees toward your chest and roll to one side.
2. Take a few breaths before slowly coming to a sitting position with the help of your arms.
Why don’t you try it now?
It is sheer bliss!

A Christmas Carol
Christmas is finally upon us!
I just love Christmas, don’t you?
Perhaps there is a part of me which has never really grown up.
I feel peace, joy, and good-will all around me - there is definitely something magical about this time of the year.
I love cooking Christmas dinner (not the traditional roast turkey, mind you, but vegetarian version!) while listening to Christmas songs.
I love unwrapping Christmas presents.
And I love watching films on the telly with my darling Wolfie (little yorkie) curled up on my lap!
There’s one film I watch year after year and never get bored with it.
The film in question is “A Christmas Carol”! (I’ve told you already that a part of me stays eternal kiddy… am I sad?)
As you know, “A Christmas Carol” is a novel by Charles Dickens, one of the most popular English novelists of the Victorian era.
It is a typical Victorian morality tale of redemption.
The main character of the novel is Ebenezer Scrooge who is a miserly old skinflint.
He hates everyone, especially children.
But at one Christmas, three ghosts come to visit him to show him Christmas past, Christmas present and Christmas yet to come.
These visits remind him of how his obsession with money lost him the love of his life and the happiness this cost him.
They also make him realise the injustice and suffering of the world and the bleak future that awaits him unless he changes his ways.
He mends his ways in time and gains a reputation as a kind and generous man who embodies the spirit of Christmas in his life.
Many films have been made based on this novel.
Anyhow, every year at least one of the terrestrial channels in
And up to now, every year I ended up watching it.
But, this year, I’m back in
I wish the film would be shown on Japanese telly…
Unlikely, though…
Sigh…
Anyway, Happy Christmas to everyone!
Hope you'll have a good one :)

Ginger, Lemon and Honey Tea
This is a time of year, even if you take every precaution to stay healthy, you often end up catching a cold from somewhere.
I couldn’t escape the dreaded fate and went down with a cold the other day.
Ugh…
However, as soon as I felt under the weather, I took it easy, thus it didn’t develop into a fully fledged cold.
Anyway, when you’ve gone down with a cold or flu, you need to take a good dose of Vitamin C and, more than anything, take plenty of rest!
Also make sure to take enough fluid.
For me, the best home remedy for cold is Ginger, Lemon and Honey Tea!
It is a hot drink made from fresh ginger root, lemon juice and honey as the name implies.
What is so special about this tea?
Well, first of all, ginger has a warming property and also it is known to help the immune system.
As you know, lemon is high in Vitamin C and it is also full of Phytonutrients.
Phytonutrients are plant-derived essential nutrients scientifically confirmed as important to human health.
They help boost the immune system and much more.
Honey has been used by humans to treat a variety of ailments for centuries.
Its antiseptic and antibacterial properties as well as its positive effects to health have been well documented.
In short, all three ingredients promote good health and they are especially great for boosting the immune system!
You now understand this tea’s potency against cold, right?
The icing on the cake is that it tastes utterly delicious and very soothing!
How to prepare the tea is very simple!
Just grate about a 1cm piece of fresh ginger root.
Boil it together with one cup of water for about 10 minutes or so.
Then squeeze the juice from half a small lemon and add a couple of spoonfuls of honey into the mixture.
Strain into a cup and serve immediately.
Please adjust the amount of each ingredient to suit your taste!

Blue Christmas”
Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”
White Christmas”
“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…”
Thank God It’s Christmas”
I wish it could be Christmas everyday”
Merry Xmas Everybody”
All I want for Christmas is you”
I believe in Father Christmas”
Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
”It's Christmastime, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade…”
Happy Christmas (War Is Over)”

Happy Christmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon
So this is Christmas and what have you done
Another year over and a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one, the old and the young
A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear
And so this is Christmas for weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones, the world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas for black and for white
For yellow and red ones, let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear
And so this is Christmas and what have we done
Another year over and a new one just begun
And so happy Christmas, we hope you have fun
The near and the dear one, the old and the young
A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now…
Best X’mas Songs of All Time
I just can’t believe it’s already December!
We say time flies, but it’s so true.
Everywhere in town centres are gearing up for Christmas and the festive decorations are just beautiful!
I don’t have a TV at home, so I often listen to British radio programmes on the net.
As Christmas is only a few weeks away, I hear loads of Christmas songs played on the radio.
I just love Christmas songs!
They fill me with warmth and happiness.
Whenever I hear my favourite songs, I sing along not caring about being out of tune :) (I’m tone deaf…)
So to bring out a seasonal spirit to everyone, I have chosen my best Christmas songs of all time!
The results are very much biased, but here we go!
No.10 “Blue Christmas” by the one and only Elvis Presley
Many artists have sung this song, but the King’s Rock’n’Roll version released in 1957 is the best!
No.9 “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” by Nat King Cole
Its warm tune reminds me of family Christmas. Just lovely!
No.8 “White Christmas”, the Christmas song of all times, by Bing Crosby
“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…”
It does not snow often in
No.7 “Thank God It’s Christmas” by a great British band, “Queen”
No.6 “I wish it could be Christmas everyday” by a British band “Wizzard”
It was released in 1973 and since then the song has been covered by many artists including Sarah Brightman.
I like its upbeat tune and I still think that the original is the best.
No.5 “Merry Xmas Everybody” by another British band called “Slade”
It was released in 1973 as well and famously beat Wizzard to No.1 spot in the singles chart.
According to MSN Music poll done last year, the song was voted to the most loved Christmas song by the British public.
No.4 “All I want for Christmas is you”
This song was released in 1994 by Mariah Carey and it became a massive hit!
Its tune is again upbeat and it has been covered by many artists.
I like a version sung by Olivia Olson in a film “Love Actually” in 2003.
No.3 “I believe in Father Christmas” by
The song was released in 1975.
Sarah Brightman has covered the song among other artists and her beautiful voice matches well with the peaceful melody of the song.
No.2 “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid
A famous charity song was released in 1984 to raise money and awareness to the devastating famine in
Many “In” artists of the era joined up for this song.
Paul Young sang the unforgettable opening tune of the song,
“It's Christmastime, there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade…”
In 2004, Band Aid 20 was formed including Chris Martin of Cold Play and re-released the song.
And finally, the honourable first position goes to “Happy Christmas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon!
John wrote this song to protest against Vietnam War and it was released in 1971.
Since then, over 35 years has gone, but even now horrific wars and conflicts are going on somewhere in the world.
I’m not a Christian nor into any particular religion.
I do, however, believe in the Divinity and goodness in every human-being.
After spending many years in
Yoga appears to increase feelings of compassion and interconnections.
If all the people in the world took up Yoga, wars and conflicts would cease and “world peace” might reign.
